Report: Patriots not expected to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo anytime soon

The New England Patriots are not likely to acquire San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo anytime soon, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The 49ers are expected to take a quarterback at third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft after trading up from 12th overall.

That move led to speculation San Francisco would move Garoppolo. When asked about it last week, coach Kyle Shanahan couldn’t promise Garoppolo would be on the roster after the NFL draft. But the 49ers had been asking for a first-round pick, and that price is probably too much for New England — or any team — to pay, especially when considering Garoppolo comes with a huge salary.

New England has quarterbacks Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Jake Dolega. It’s likely they will add another signal-caller over the course of the draft weekend, whether through the draft or the trade market.
