Report: Patriots meet with free agent OT Jared Veldheer

The New England Patriots met with free agent offensive tackle Jared Veldheer, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. The tackle started 12 games for Denver in 2018. He has 118 games played and 113 stars in his nine-year career.

Veldheer has played on three teams – the Broncos, the Arizona Cardinals and the Oakland Raiders — since entering the NFL in the third round in 2010 draft. The 6-foot-8, 320-pound tackle has played mostly on the right side.

The Patriots’ current depth chart at tackle includes likely starters Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon along with 2018 third-round draft choice Yodny Cajuste and a handful of unproven players like Cole Croston, Cedrick Lang, Dan Skipper and Ryker Mathews. Because Wynn is recovering from an Achilles injury and Cannon has missed games in every season since 2014, the Patriots might be wise to add another experienced player at tackle.
