Ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have met with a lesser-town receiver in Eastern Washington University’s Nsimba Webster, according to Yahoo’s Eric Edholm.
While playing at the FCS level, Webster managed impressive production in his senior season with 84 receptions for 1,379 yards (16.4 yards per reception) and 11 touchdowns in 15 games in 2018. During his junior year, he had 59 receptions for 693 yards and five touchdowns.
EWU lost in the FCS championship game against North Dakota State. Webster finished the loss with four receptions for 92 yards. In the semifinal, a win over Maine, he had nine receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns. He was also a solid kick returner in his early years at EWU with 31 attempts for 680 yards in his sophomore season.
The Patriots receiver depth chart includes Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett, Braxton Berrios, Bruce Ellington and Maurice Harris, among others. Josh Gordon is a restricted free agent, but seems likely to return to New England, if he can get off his suspension for violating the NFL’s drug policy.
