Report: Patriots maintaining interest in CB Jason McCourty

The New England Patriots are keeping tabs on cornerback Jason McCourty, according to NFL Network’s Michael Giardi. McCourty played for the Patriots in 2018, but is testing free agency.

New England acquired McCourty in a trade after it became clear the Browns intended to release him. The Patriots swapped late picks with the Browns, and united Jason with his twin brother, Devin.

Jason McCourty opened his season in a position of uncertainty after he seemed to barely make final cuts. But an injury to Eric Rowe trust McCourty into a starting role, where he remained into the postseason and the Super Bowl. Rookie cornerback J.C. Jackson took some of McCoury’s snaps as the season wore on, but McCourty found ways to contribute in the slot and outside.

Jason surely wants to stick with his brother, Devin. But it’s easy to imagine another team poaching Jason away from the Patriots with a bigger offer.
