Report: Patriots lost bidding war with Titans over Adam Humphries

The New England Patriots were in a bidding war with the Tennessee Titans all day over Adam Humphries, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini. Ultimately, the Titans outbid the Patriots and agreed to terms with Humphries on a four-year deal worth $36 million.

In 2018, Humphries had 76 receptions for 816 yards and five touchdowns. Humphries emerged on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted out of Clemson.

New England has a need at receiver with most of their talent headed into free agency. Receivers Phillip Dorsett, Chris Hogan and Cordarrelle Patterson are unrestricted free agents. Josh Gordon is a restricted free agent. Julian Edelman is the only receiver who was on the Super Bowl LIII roster that is on contract to return in 2019.

Despite that need, New England must have deemed Humphries’ price rage too steep. The remaining receivers on the market include Golden Tate, Devin Funchess, Tyrell Williams and Cole Beasley.
