Report: Patriots ‘livid’ with former character coach Jack Easterby

Drama continues to arise this offseason between the New England Patriots and the Houston Texans.

As of last week, the Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans for trying to recruit their director of player personnel, Nick Caserio. They eventually worked things out and dropped the charges after Houston agreed to stop all pursuit of Caserio.

This added some motivation for the Patriots to beat the Texans on Dec. 1, when they match up for Sunday night football. But, New England’s frustration with Houston extends beyond the attempted recruitment of Caserio.

The Patriots still have some bad blood with their former character coach, Jack Easterby, according to Greg Bedard from Boston Sports Journal. Easterby joined the Patriots in 2013 and was fundamental in molding and helping players as they went through life in the NFL.

He left the organization early in 2019 and joined the Texans for a role as their executive vice president of player development.

One source said, “They are livid.”

Another source said, “This totally pissed them off.”

New England is a tough team to play against in general, but they are especially dangerous when they have a chip on their shoulders. Easterby’s departure, along with the Caserio situation, may be the reason for a long night on Dec. 1.
