Report: Patriots LB Brandon King ‘likely’ out for season

The New England Patriots dealt with a slew of injuries in their preseason matchup against the Carolina Panthers — and one seemed to be pretty significant.

In the second quarter, Brandon King was carted off with a leg injury that appeared to be extremely painful. Boston Globe’s Jim McBride reported on Friday morning that he’ll likely be out for the rest of the season.

“The Patriots lost Brandon King to a torn quadriceps injury Thursday night and the special teams ace is likely out for the season, a league source said Friday,” McBride said.

King has spent his four NFL seasons with the Patriots and has found his role as a star special teams player — so his absence will be felt. The Patriots will have to quickly find his replacement, while also dealing with the other injuries that occurred on Thursday night.
