Report: Patriots, Jason McCourty agree to terms on two-year deal

The New England Patriots have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with cornerback Jason McCourty, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Jason will rejoin his twin brother in New England’s secondary for a second consecutive season.

McCourty’s decision to stick with New England should keep the Super Bowl-winning secondary intact after they helped befuddle Jared Goff in the Los Angeles Rams’ three-point effort. McCourty rejoins a cornerback group which includes Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones, Duke Dawson and Keion Crossen. Jones is a restricted free agent with a second-round tender. The only key departure from the group is cornerback Eric Rowe, who ended up on injured reserve and is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins.

McCourty joined the Patriots in a trade during the 2018 offseason with New England swapping late-round picks with the Cleveland Browns. McCourty’s position within the Patriots was tenuous at first, but he earned a roster spot and became one of the team’s starting cornerbacks. In Super Bowl LIII, McCourty made a game-changing pass-breakup that may have changed the complexion of the game.
