Report: Patriots intend to take 2 planes to Kansas City as a COVID-19 precaution

The New England Patriots will take two planes as they travel to play the Kansas City Chiefs for Week 4, according to Pro Football Talk.

The game was already postponed due to a positive test on both the Chiefs and Patriots rosters on Friday (Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu). The NFL announced the game would take place on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. after both teams had two consecutive days without a positive test. The Patriots will travel by plane on Monday, but they intend to one plane to isolate every staffer and player who has been in close contact with Newton.

Here’s what Pro Football Talk wrote about the situation:

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots will travel in two planes. One will carry roughly 20 persons who have had close contact with Newton. The other will have the rest of the traveling party. The Patriots used two planes last year during an outbreak of the flu. The fact that the team’s ownership also owns both planes makes that a lot easier.”

Newton, of course, will not travel with the team. He will not be able to rejoin his team until he’s removed from the COVID-19 list.
