Report: Patriots give reigning DPOY Stephon Gilmore significant raise

Stephon Gilmore woke up to a significant boost in his pay on Friday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The New England Patriots bumped his salary from $10.5 million to $15.5 million, with a chance to earn up to $17.5 million in incentives for this season. Gilmore has two years left on the five-year contract he originally signed that totaled up to $65 million.

Gilmore, 29, is entering his ninth NFL season and has been a model of consistency for the Patriots over the past three years. He’s earned three Pro Bowl nods and was named First-Team All-Pro over the previous two seasons — not mentioning the Defensive Player of the Year award he collected last season.

Gilmore leads a Patriots secondary that consists of Jason McCourty, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones and Joejaun Williams. Devin McCourty, Adrian Phillips and Kyle Dugger will hold down the safety position this season.

Gilmore is the anchor of the defense and the best player on the team, so the Patriots are benefitting everyone by keeping him happy.
