The New England Patriots have filed tampering charges against the Houston Texans for attempting to hire Nick Caserio as a general manager, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Caserio is serving as the Patriots’ director of player personnel, and has been in that role since 2008. The Texans, meanwhile, have been committed to a “targeted search” which features Caserio as the top target, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Houston fired GM Brian Gaine last weekend.
Caserio has been Bill Belichick’s right-hand man when it comes to player evaluation.
“Nick does a tremendous job,” Belichick said before the draft on April 10. “He sees literally every player, all of the pro players, all of the college players as well as being in all of the staff meetings and being a part of all of the things we do from a coaching standpoint. It gives us a tremendous opportunity for him to connect with the coaches and understand the schematics and what’s going on on the coaching side of it to try to integrate and correlate the players that we’re evaluating on all of the different levels.”
