Report: Patriots expected to re-sign John Simon

The New England Patriots are expected to re-sign defensive end and outside linebacker John Simon, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

He joined the team in the middle of the season and played just 11 games with the Patriots, but impressed the team enough to earn a new contract.

He logged 17 tackles and two sacks with the team while taking on a role as an edge linebacker, a challenging role which requires players to take on a great number of responsibilities in the defense. Yet Simon quickly learned the role and became a contributor.

He joined New England after spending time with the Indianapolis Colts, who cut Simon coming out of training camp. He was out of a job until the Patriots signed him early in the season.
