Report: Patriots expected to hire Michael Lombardi’s son Mick

The New England Patriots are expected to hire New York Jets assistant quarterbacks coach Mick Lombardi, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Mick is the son of Michael Lombardi, a former Patriots executive who now works in media.

Mick served as a Patriots scouting assistant in 2011, his first job out of college. He then worked as a scouting and coaching assistant in 2012 for New England. He left the Patriots and worked for the San Francisco 49ers for four years, holding a different title in each year from 2013 to 2016. He then worked for the New York Jets in 2017 and 2018 as an offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach.

The Patriots’ former assistant quarterbacks coach, Jerry Schuplinski, joined the Miami Dolphins to take the same position. However, Schuplinski is far from the only assistant the Patriots are losing. Brian Flores and Chad O’Shea are heading to the Dolphins. Brendan Daly is joining the Kansas City Chiefs.

Lombardi will be the first of many hires or promotions to fill those vacancies.
