Report: Patriots cut WR Maurice Harris in flurry of roster moves

The New England Patriots are releasing wide receiver Maurice Harris, waiving defensive end Keionta Davis and placing linebacker Brandon King on injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Field Yates and Mike Reiss.

In corresponding moves, the Patriots have signed linebacker Scooby Wright and running back Robert Martin.

Harris figured to be off the 53-man roster when receivers Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and Demaryius Thomas returned from injury and suspension. When they returned, Harris’ likelihood of making New England’s roster dropped. With Harris getting cut early, he may be able to catch on with another team. He had a number of impressive practices at the beginning of training camp, and could be a solid depth option on another roster. New England did something similar with veteran receiver Dontrelle Inman, who joined the Chargers after the Patriots released him.

Davis played sparingly for the Patriots in 2018. He logged six tackles and no sacks in reserve rolls.

King, a special teams standout, suffered a leg injury during the preseason on Thursday. He will start the season on IR.

Wright has been out of the NFL since Sept. 1 2018. He played with Arizona Hotshots before the AAF collapsed. He has spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals.

Martin spent time with the Giants, but was cut in May. At Rutgers, he rushed for 2,274 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
