Report: Patriots bringing back RB Brandon Bolden

The New England Patriots plan to bring back running back Brandon Bolden on a two year deal, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Bolden started his career with the Patriots before joining the Miami Dolphins for 2018. Bolden will make his return to New England to contribute on special teams.

With the Dolphins, Bolden picked up 60 of his 91 rushing yards on the season against the Patriots. He also scored two touchdowns, his only two of season. He helped the Dolphins upset the Patriots in Miami in a wild game that finished with a walk-off touchdown.

In Bolden’s last season with the Patriots in 2017, he was scarcely used as a running back, which will likely be the case again in 2019. The Patriots have backs Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead, who will all be jockeying for touches. Barring a string of injuries, Bolden will likely contribute on special teams, where he was a standout for the Patriots in past years and for the Dolphins in 2018.
