Report: Patriots are in on apparent Tyler Eifert sweepstakes

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert always seemed like an obvious trade candidate after the team’s 0-8 start.

Eifert just felt like a player who would interest a contender such as the New England Patriots or New Orleans Saints, for starters.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots are one of the reported teams in the fray: “The Patriots are among the teams that have shown the most interest in Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert, per source. Not sure if the Bengals will relax the price enough to trade him.”

Besides a showcase game over the weekend in London, Eifert simply hasn’t been a big part of the attack despite being healthy for a consistent stretch for the first time in years.

Eifert is a free agent again after the season and the Bengals spent a second-round pick on Drew Sample to join C. J. Uzomah on the depth chart. Meaning, he’s ideal trade fodder.

Interesting, though, is the note the Bengals might have to come down on their asking price. Getting anything for his eventual departure might constitute a win.
