Report: Patriots cut K Mike Nugent

The New England Patriots are cutting kicker Mike Nugent, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. The Patriots signed Nugent after placing Stephen Gostkoswki on injured reserve earlier this season.

Nugent went 5 of 8 (62.5%) on field goals and 15 of 16 (93.8%) on extra points during his four games in New England in 2019. But the Patriots were clearly not confident in Nugent’s abilities from range. They tended to go for fourth-down conversions in situations where kicking might have been the wiser decision. He attempted just one field goal from 40 yards or longer and none from 50 yards.

The move leaves the Patriots without a kicker for the time being.

They released kicker Younghoe Koo from their practice squad earlier this season. He signed with the Falcons on Tuesday after they released veteran Matt Bryant.
