Report: Patriots add $20 million option year to Antonio Brown’s contract

The New England Patriots included an option-year for Antonio Brown in 2020 at $20 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This deal will become guaranteed if executed. They added this option for cap purposes in 2019, likely to alleviate the salary bonus over the two years.

Brown’s original one-year deal with New England lands him $10 million guaranteed and up to $15 million with incentives. If everything goes accordingly, Brown will have got what he wanted in every aspect. He will walk away with similar guaranteed money to his deal with the Oakland Raiders — but he’ll be playing with a contender.

This is a similar deal to when Darrelle Revis joined the Patriots in 2014, but they never executed that option. The option helps with cap proration and will prove to be beneficial for New England. Now, it’s up to Brown to buy into the Patriots’ system and acclimate himself into the culture that they have created.
