Report: Pat Shurmur ‘not pursuing’ Michigan State’s head coach job

Shortly after he joined the Broncos as their new offensive coordinator, former Giants head coach Pat Shurmur was listed among the head coach candidates being considered by Michigan State’s football program.

Shurmur played four seasons for the Spartans and spent the first ten years of his coaching career with the school so a reunion would have made sense. It sounds like the coach has fully committed to his position in Denver, though.

Shurmur “is not pursuing” the Michigan State job and he is “fully focused on the Broncos,” The Athletic‘s Nicki Jhabvala tweeted Tuesday.

During his introductory press conference on Feb. 6, Shurmur was asked if he has a desire to be a head coach again in the NFL (that was before reports emerged about his candidacy at Michigan State).

“I have the desire to be the offensive coordinator here,” Shurmur said. “I think what happens with those settings is typically if you’re doing a really good job where you’re at and if somebody thinks you can provide the vision for their organization, they come tap you on the shoulder.

“Until that time, you just worry about doing the job you have.”
