Report: Panthers WR Mose Frazier broke his arm at OTAs

Panthers wide receiver Mose Frazier broke his arm during OTAs today, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network. He will undergo surgery performed by the team doctor, Pat Connor.

As Rapoport noted, Frazier was a preseason standout in 2018 but he only played 49 snaps during the regular season.

If there’s any silver lining here, it’s that Frazier still has a lot of time to recover before the 2019 season starts, so this doesn’t necessarily mean we have seen the last of him this year.

On the other hand, Frazier already faced a daunting task making the 53-man roster with so many bodies at wide receiver. This won’t help his chances.

Carolina usually only carries six receivers during the season. If that holds true this year, then D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, Chris Hogan, Torrey Smith, Jarius Wright and Aldrick Robinson are the most likely candidates to take those spots. Seventh-round pick Terry Godwin might pick one of them off, though. If the Panthers buck tradition and carry more receivers, guys like Godwin, Frazier and Rashad Ross will have to battle it out, but their odds are long enough even without suffering major injuries.
