Report: Panthers WR Chris Hogan’s 1-year deal has a $2 million max value

Chris Hogan signed a one-year deal with the Panthers on Friday. As of yet, the details of the contract have not been revealed, but we do have some information.

According to a report by Mike Reiss at ESPN, Hogan’s deal has a max of just $2 million.

“I haven’t seen the specifics of Hogan’s one-year deal in Carolina, but it was relayed to me that he received just a $300,000 signing bonus and has a chance to earn a maximum of $2 million, which stood out as extremely modest based on what his expectations were at this time last year.”

Extremely modest is a good way to describe the deal, if that is indeed the most he can make. Hogan is not going to carry any team’s wide receiver corps, nor should he. However, he is an effective possession receiver who rarely drops passes and gets open often via high-quality route running.

Curtis Samuel and D.J. Moore will have the starring roles, but Hogan should hold up his end in a supporting role, competing for targets with fellow veterans Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright.

If Hogan’s as effective as he has been for Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offense, then there won’t be anything to complain about. Hogan averaged 35.6 catches, 550.3 receiving yards and four touchdowns a season in New England. If he can match or at least come close to those numbers, then $2 million would be a steal.
