Report: Panthers secondary coach interviews with Cowboys

The Panthers’ coaching staff is getting a lot of interest around the league despite a 5-11 finish to the season. Matt Rhule has already lost three assistants and could lose several more in the coming days.

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, Carolina’s defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach Jason Simmons interviewed with the Cowboys for their defensive coordinator position. He has previously worked with Dallas’ head coach Mike McCarthy on the Packers.

Simmons played 121 total games at safety between the Steelers and Texans from 1998-2007. Green Bay first hired him in 2011 as an administrative assistant. In 2015, he became an assistant special teams coach and worked his way up to become the Packers’ defensive backs coach from there. Simmons joined the Panthers’ staff in 2020.

Speaking of, the big domino we’re waiting on is offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who has interviewed with four teams for their head coach positions.
