Panthers release offensive tackle Matt Kalil

According to a report by Jourdan Rodrigue at the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers have released offensive tackle Matt Kalil.

Tomorrow Kalil’s base salary for the 2019 season was set to be guaranteed. Rodrigue followed up her first report by stating that this will be a post June-1 cut.

According to figures available at Over the Cap, that means the Panthers will save about $7.25 million in cap room for this year. However, releasing Kalil also comes with $14.7 million in dead money.

As far as the roster goes, Taylor Moton should be projected as the team’s new starting left tackle. The team also re-signed Daryl Williams to a one-year deal; he is likely to return to starting at right tackle. Don’t be surprised if Carolina adds another candidate in the draft, though.

Update:

The team has announced that Kalil has been cut.
