Report: Panthers re-sign offensive tackle Daryl Williams to 1-year deal

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Carolina Panthers are re-signing offensive tackle Daryl Williams on a one-year deal.

Williams had a breakout 2017 season and was named a second-team All-Pro. However, he missed all but one game last year due to knee injuries. By re-signing Williams, the Panthers take one of a very small number of OTs off the pending free agent market.

Bringing Williams back gives Carolina more options on the outside. They could project Matt Kalil to start at left tackle again, or they might try sliding Williams or Taylor Moton over.

Financial details of the deal have not yet been reported.

Williams was a fourth-round pick by the Panthers in the 2015 NFL draft. His first two seasons were relatively quiet before he got his big break to start all 16 games in 2017.

Depending on the particulars, signing Williams to a one-year deal should work out for both parties. Williams gets to prove he’s healthy again and that his performance two seasons ago was not a fluke. Carolina gets more ammunition to solve its long-standing problem on the blindside.
