Report: Panthers owner David Tepper to meet with S.C. officials about new team complex

The Carolina Panthers have a saying — “Two states, one team” — which is an idea that new owner David Tepper is determined to make more than just a slogan.

According to a report by Andy Shain of the Post and Courier, Tepper will visit with South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and state legislative leaders to examine the possible move of the Panthers’ headquarters and practice facilities to York County. The meeting is scheduled to take place on March 13 at the Governor’s Mansion.

The rumored site, as reported by Shain on Dec. 12, is in Fort Mill, about 15 miles south of Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium. The location previously was the site of Knights Stadium, home of minor league baseball’s Charlotte Knights from 1990 to 2013, as well as the Charlotte Hornets’ practice facility.

Tepper, whom Forbes recognized this week as the NFL’s richest owner at a net worth of $11.6 billion, has been particularly adamant about upgrading his team’s current amenities since taking ownership last May. The new development could emulate that of the Dallas Cowboys’ $1.5 billion complex opened in 2017, according to the Post and Courier.
