Report: Panthers offered Lions Teddy Bridgewater in Matt Stafford trade talks

The Carolina Panthers tried like hell to get the Detroit Lions to trade Matt Stafford to them last weekend. One report went as far as saying the team was in the process of getting Stafford’s medical records the deal was so close. In the end, the Los Angeles Rams swooped in with a better offer, even if it included Jared Goff’s contract.

We’re learning more details about that deal that fell through, now. According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, Carolina offered a package consisting of Teddy Bridgewater, the No. 8 overall pick and a fifth-round pick to boot.

That’s a lot to give up for a 33-year old QB, but it would have gotten them free of Bridgewater’s contract and given them a big short-term upgrade at the position.

Expect the Panthers to keep trying and there is no shortage of available QBs. Right now it seems like half of the league’s starting quarterbacks may be on the move this offseason.
