Report: Panthers hosting Washington safety prospect today

Washington has produced several intriguing NFL draft prospects this year, including offensive lineman Kaleb McGary, cornerback Byron Murphy and safety Taylor Rapp. The Panthers have shown some interest in each of them during the predraft process.

According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Rapp is visiting with the team today. He has also met with the Seahawks.

Rapp played in 39 games for the Huskies, totaling seven interceptions, six pass breakups, six sacks and 8.5 tackles for a loss. After winning the Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year, he was named first-team all conference as both a sophomore and junior.

At the combine Rapp measured in at six-foot, 208 pounds. He didn’t run the 40 but he did post a 3.99 second short shuttle time.

Rapp is projected to be a second-round pick, which would be a good time for the Panthers to find a long-term starter to pair with Eric Reid rather than reaching for a backup quarterback like the latest rumors indicate.

Carolina is also reported to be meeting with Oklahoma offensive line prospect Cody Ford today.
