Report: Panthers DB Ross Cockrell fined for lowering helmet on hit vs. Cardinals

According to a report by Joe Person at the Athletic, Panthers defensive back Ross Cockrell has been fined $28,075 by the NFL for lowering his helmet while hitting Cardinals wide receiver Christian Kirk last week.

Cockrell saw a ton of playing time as the Panthers tried to counter Arizona’s four receiver sets. He played every defensive snap and did it well.

On Sunday Cockrell might see a larger role than usual again for a different reason. Donte Jackson is listed as questionable and if he can’t go Cockrell is expected to start outside opposite James Bradberry, who will have his hands full shadowing DeAndre Hopkins.

That would likely mean Cockrell will spend many snaps lined up across from Will Fuller, who is a difficult matchup in his own right
