Report: Packers waiving TE Michael Roberts with failed physical

The Michael Roberts era in Green Bay didn’t last long.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Packers waived Roberts after the third-year tight end failed a physical for the second time in a week.

Previously, Roberts failed a physical with the New England Patriots, canceling a trade between the Patriots and Detroit Lions. The Packers claimed Roberts after he was waived by the Lions, but it appears Green Bay’s medical staff has similar worries as the one in New England.

He’ll now go back on the waiver wire.

Roberts, a fourth-round pick of the Lions in 2017, ended last season on injured reserve after needing shoulder surgery.

Over 23 games the last two seasons, Roberts caught 13 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

Minus Roberts, the Packers now have Jimmy Graham, Marcedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan, Jace Sternberger, Evan Baylis and Pharoah McKever at tight end, but it wouldn’t be surprising if GM Brian Gutekunst continues looking for a player to add to the group.

The Packers released running back Kapri Bibbs to make room for Roberts last week. The team’s roster now sits at 89 players.
