Report: Packers tried to set up visit with Duke QB Daniel Jones

The Green Bay Packers have been connected with two of the top quarterbacks in the 2019 NFL draft.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers attempted to set up a pre-draft visit with Duke quarterback Daniel Jones, and they’ll have an official visit with Missouri quarterback Drew Lock on Tuesday.

The visit with Jones didn’t work out due to timing issues, per Rapoport.

Jones, a three-year starter at Duke, threw for 2,674 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2018. He finished his collegiate career with 8,201 passing yards, 52 touchdown passes and 29 interceptions.

Jones (6-5, 231) features good size and athleticism and has been compared to Ryan Tannehill of Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.

“Jones doesn’t have special arm talent, but he can make pro throws and has the ability to attack deep with accuracy,” Zierlein wrote.

The Packers have three picks in the top 50 and could be looking for a long-term future behind Aaron Rodgers. Or GM Brian Gutekunst is simply doing his due diligence at every position, including quarterback.
