Report: Packers S Darnell Savage tweaks ankle, avoids major injury

The Green Bay Packers won’t have to worry about losing standout rookie safety Darnell Savage for the rest of the 2019 season.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Savage simply “tweaked his ankle” and avoided a major injury on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Savage exited the game after getting rolled up while making a tackle in the first half. The mechanism of the play opened up the possibility of a major injury, either to Savage’s ankle or knee.

Savage remained on the sideline and appeared to be testing the ankle in an effort to return to the game, but he never did.

The Packers replaced Savage at safety with Will Redmond, who produced nine tackles and two tackles for losses (plus a negated interception) against the Cowboys.

The Packers have an extra day of recovery this week. They’ll play the Detroit Lions at home on Monday night.
