Report: Packers ‘really like’ Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite

The Green Bay Packers have their eyes on one of the best pass rushers in the 2019 draft class.

According to Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst, the Packers “really like” Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite, a first-round talent who could be a legitimate candidate to be the team’s pick at No. 12 overall.

Pauline also reports the Packers are expected to be active in searching for an edge rusher in free agency, something that has been widely reported at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Adding a veteran edge rusher and Polite could transform the Packers’ ability to disrupt the quarterback in 2019.

As a junior at Florida, Polite produced 11 sacks, 19.5 tackles for losses, six forced fumbles and four pass breakups.

Our evaluation of Polite’s game brought up memories of a young Clay Matthews. Although slightly undersized, both edge rushers are explosive athletes with slippery movement ability, terrific body control and nonstop motors.

The Packers may not bring back Matthews, and Nick Perry has an uncertain future with a looming bonus payment due this month. GM Brian Gutekunst will likely need to use free agency and the draft to restock the important position. Polite could be a big part of those plans.
