Report: Packers not interested in trade for Cardinals QB Josh Rosen

A trade with the Arizona Cardinals for Josh Rosen doesn’t appear to be a part of the Green Bay Packers’ search for a backup quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers.

According to Mike Silver of NFL Network, the Packers aren’t interested in trading for Rosen, the 10th overall pick in last year’s draft, who could be available if the Cardinals take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall pick next week.

“I am told the Packers are not interested in Josh Rosen and would not make a move on draft day,” Silver said.

Rosen, who actually worked out with Rodgers before last year’s draft, made 13 starts for the Cardinals in 2018, completing 217 of 393 attempts for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions. His passer rating was 66.7, and the Cardinals won only three of his 13 starts.

However, one of the wins was a shocker at Lambeau Field last December, which directly led to the firing of Mike McCarthy. Rosen completed only 11 passes in the game, but he led the Cardinals to a game-winning field goal with under two minutes left.

It doesn’t appear as if the next step in his career will be working under Rodgers in Green Bay.

Although he was thrown into a tough situation as a rookie, Rosen still ranked second to last among qualifying quarterbacks in completion percentage (55.2) and last in yards per attempt (5.8) and passer rating.

If the Packers add a quarterback this offseason, it’ll be through the draft, according to Silver.

Silver also said the Packers are simply doing “due diligence” on the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class, which includes Drew Lock and Daniel Jones.
