Report: Packers’ Nathaniel Hackett to interview with Jags late this week

The Jacksonville Jaguars head coach search will continue this week and current Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, is among the candidates set to interview in the coming days. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hackett will interview with the Jags late in the week (likely Friday) and could do so in person with the Packers set for a playoff bye week.

Hackett is a familiar face to the Jags franchise as he once was their offensive coordinator under Doug Marrone from 2017-18 and was an interim offensive coordinator for them in 2016 when Greg Olson was fired. However, before the 2018 season could end, Marrone fired Hackett in November, ending his tenure with the team.

The following season, Hackett joined the Packers’ staff and was named their offensive coordinator when Matt LaFleur was named their head coach. Since joining the organization, he’s established a great bond with Aaron Rodgers and even received interest from the Atlanta Falcons last year for their previously open head coach vacancy.

Hackett is the son of longtime NFL assistant Paul Hackett, so he’s been around the NFL for a while. Hackett started his NFL coaching career with the Tampa Bay Bucs (2006-07) and Buffalo Bills (2008-09) as a quality controls coach. He then linked up with Marrone at Syracuse where he initially coached the quarterbacks and tight ends before becoming the offensive coordinator from 2011-12. When Marrone became the coach for the Buffalo Bills, Hackett followed him there and was his offensive coordinator from 2013-14.

Hackett’s tenure in Jacksonville was one where the argument could be made that he was affected by the quarterback play. However, with him learning some things from the Packers’ organization and having Trevor Lawrence on the roster, he could be bettered positioned to get the Jags’ offense than he was before.
