Report: Packers, LT David Bakhtiari agree to historic contract extension

The long-awaited contract extension for Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari is a historic one.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers and Bakhtiari agreed to a four-year, $105.5 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

The deal is worth $23 million per year, per Rapoport, and could go up to as much as $23.5 million. The extension beats Laremy Tunsil’s deal, which averaged $22 million per year.

Bakhtiari, a four-time All-Pro, had an expiring contract and was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2020 season.

Bakhtiari confirmed the deal following the Packers’ win over the 24-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Bakhtiari becomes the second Packers player to sign a major contract extension this year, joining defensive lineman Kenny Clark, who agreed to a new deal during training camp.
