Report: Packers contacted Vikings when attempting to get Jordan Love

Despite having Aaron Rodgers behind center, Green Bay really wanted a quarterback.

The Packers eventually went and got him, taking Utah State’s Jordan Love after trading up for the 26th overall pick.

But before that, Green Bay wanted the Utah State quarterback so badly, that it even reportedly contacted an NFC North rival to try and get him.

That rival was the Vikings. As reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, when the Packers made their calls about a first-round trade up, they reached out to Minnesota, too, which had the 22nd and 25th picks in the first round.

For some reason, the Packers felt it was time to take a young quarterback in the first round, as opposed to a player that fulfills a positional need. Recently, Pro Football Focus referred to the Packers’ draft as an ‘unmitigated disaster.’ Here’s to hoping that PFF is right, and Minnesota added enough talent to put itself atop the division in 2020.
