Report: Old Dominion DE Tim Ward taking top-30 visit with Chiefs

The Chiefs have a draft prospect in the house on Thursday.

Top-30 visits for the 2019 NFL draft began on March 13th, and while the Chiefs have already brought in some prospects they’re continuing to do so up until the NFL draft at the end of the month.

On Thursday the Chiefs are hosting Old Dominion defensive end Tim Ward according to Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports. Ward’s teammate Oshane Ximines has overshadowed him in the pre-draft process, but apparently Ward piqued the interest of the Chiefs at the Regional Combine Invitational. The supplement to the NFL Scouting Combine took place at the Chiefs’ practice facility this year. Ward showcased his fluidity as an athlete during his workout at the event, he also boasted an 82″ wingspan per NFL Draft Bible.

At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Ward certainly fits the profile of a defensive end in the Chiefs new 4-3 defense. Ward finished his career at Old Dominion with 127 total tackles, 31 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks.

Some of you might be asking, “Who is this guy?” Well the Chiefs and many other teams often use top-30 visits on players who will end up as priority undrafted free agents. They use the visit as a tool to better get to know the player, check their medicals, and recruit them to join the Chiefs if they don’t end up drafted.

Two players currently on the Chiefs’ offseason roster took top-30 visits with the team last season. Those players are Tremon Smith (sixth-round draft pick) and Deon Yelder (undrafted free agent). So some of these guys could even generate late round interest from the Chiefs too.

We’ll have a full roundup of all top-30 visits for you ahead of the 2019 NFL draft.
