Report: No surgery for Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill, but he will miss ‘a few weeks’

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill seems to have escaped a potentially dangerous situation without the need for surgery.

Hill was transported to a Jacksonville area hospital for treatment for a sternal clavicular joint injury suffered in the Chiefs’ Week 1 win against the Jaguars. What that means is the clavicle becomes dislocated at its joint and impacts the sternum, which can lead to serious trauma and be life-threatening.

Luckily for Hill, he seems to have escaped major danger. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hill will not require surgery but he will miss a few weeks. So good news and bad news for the Chiefs all at once.

Hill just signed a massive three-year extension with the Chiefs after a tumultuous offseason. He’s one of the most important pieces on the offensive side of the ball. Amid allegations this offseason of child abuse, the Chiefs were prepared to be without Hill due to a suspension. Obviously, they’d rather have a healthy Hill on the field, but at least they’re a bit more prepared for this situation than they would have otherwise been.

Sammy Watkins had a breakout game this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Even after Hill left the game with an injury, Watkins continued to torch the Jaguars defense. The Chiefs will likely lean on other receivers, like Watkins and rookie WR Mecole Hardman, to get the job done with Hill out. The Chiefs will also return De’Anthony Thomas from suspension for Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders.
