Report: Nick Foles informs Eagles he’ll decline $20M option, pay $2M to become free agent

Nick Foles wants the opportunity to start for an NFL franchise and he’s wasted no time in letting the Eagles know that he’s serious. Hours after Tim McManus of ESPN.com reported that the Eagles will pick up his $20 million mutual option, Adam Schefter is reporting that Foles is prepared to pay the $2 million to buy his free agency, and wasted no time in letting the Eagles know.

The $20 million option would be fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the new league year, and Foles had five days to inform the Eagles of his decision. If the Eagles choose to franchise Foles, it’ll be at the cost of around $25 million, and the team will still have to find a willing trade partner for Foles or be forced to carry the most expensive backup in NFL history.

Now it looks like he moved pretty fast to make it known he wants his freedom.
