Report: Nick Foles deal will pay $46.625M in first 2 years

The Jacksonville Jaguars deal with Nick Foles is complete (in principle) and deal will reportedly be worth $88 million ($102 million with incentives) that will pay $50.125 million in guarantees. However, Sports Illustrated senior reporter Albert Breer revealed some more news on the contract, stating that it will pay out $46.625 million in two years.

If true, it basically looks like we’re looking at a deal in which the Jags can get out of in two years if it doesn’t work out, however, it’s also one that says he’s their guy at least until after 2020.

Many came away puzzled by the figures behind the deal because the Jags were initially believed to be the only team on the market for him, but the decision is now made and we’ll have to see what comes of it. The good thing about the deal is if the Jags don’t like what they see Year 1, they can grab a quarterback from the 2020 class (which is strong at the position) to learn under him next year.

On the other hand, if the Jags get the Foles we’ve seen late in the 2017-18 seasons, this is a great deal, however, the weapons currently aren’t on the roster for him to flourish. That likely means the Jags will look to the 2019 draft to build around him so they can get a bang from their pricey investment.
