Report: Nick Bosa won’t meet with Jets before NFL draft

Many teams want to meet with Ohio State edge rusher Nick Bosa, but the Jets reportedly won’t be one of them after Bosa canceled his private pre-draft meeting.

Bosa plans to meet with five teams in the top six of the NFL draft: Arizona, San Francisco, Oakland, Tampa Bay and the New York Giants, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. Noticeably absent from that list is Gang Green.

While it’s a little bit unfortunate that the Jets won’t get at least a pre-draft visit with Bosa, it’s not all that surprising or really even important in the grand scheme of things.

For one, it’s widely expected Bosa won’t last past the 49ers’ second overall pick. Secondly, Mike Maccagnan already said the Jets want to trade back. Since the Jets probably won’t even be in a position to draft Bosa, it may not make sense to meet with him considering every NFL team only gets 30 private meetings with draft prospects. It would be more valuable for the Jets to meet with players the team has a real shot at drafting.

Not meeting with Bosa doesn’t preclude the Jets from drafting him if he falls to them at No. 3, though. All it means is the Jets would rather do their due diligence on players they have a reasonable chance at drafting. If Bosa is there, New York would jump at the opportunity to take him given his ability and need at the position.
