Report: NFL proposes to cut preseason down to one game

A new proposal by the NFL given to players will reportedly cut the preseason down to just one game.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the plan is for teams to play the single preseason contest during what would have been Week 3 of the preseason on the week of August 27.

The only issue with that is players still want no preseason games and a longer acclimation period. It isn’t clear if the players will agree to this proposal as a result.

If accepted and the Tennessee Titans play their preseason Week 3 opponent, it would mean the Titans will play on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won’t have a home game during the exhibition slate.

This proposal comes on the heels of players banding together on social media on Sunday for a “We Want to Play” movement, calling for the NFL to quickly come up with COVID-19 protocols ahead of training camp.

There is still a lot to be worked out between the two sides as training camps rapidly approach, but this is at least a positive sign that things are moving in the right direction.
