Report: NFL Draft to be conducted from studio setting

The NFL Draft will not take place under the bright lights and flair of Las Vegas. Rather, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event will occur in a studio setting, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

Sam Farmer of The Times is reporting the April 23-25 NFL Draft will take place “from some type of studio with cut-ins from the headquarters of the teams making the selection at a given time.”

Farmer adds the paper was able to obtain a memo sent from Commissioner Roger Goodell to all league employees. Goodell wrote “Planning for the Draft is a good example of how we need to think differently, embrace technology and collaborate. We will also use the Draft to help support fans and those people impacted in our communities.

Goodell continued: While ther have been changes to the way we work and some of our plans, we hjave am unwavering commitment to upholding the NFL’s legacy of unifying and lifting the spirit of America and bringing out the best in our fans and in our communities around the world …

Farmer’s report adds it remains to be seen what the league will do with regard to bringing the top players to a setting due to travel and health restrictions by the coronavirus pandemic.

Goodell closed the memo with a quote from former New Orleans Saint Steve Gleason, who has been fighting a valiant battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) for years.
