Report: NFL cancels in-person minicamps, impacting Bengals

So much for the idea Cincinnati Bengals rookies like Joe Burrow could potentially get back to Paul Brown Stadium before the end of the month.

While recent conversations between the NFL and NFLPA made it seem like a limited number of players might be permitted back to team facilities across the league, new reporting Thursday put an end to the idea.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the NFL has extended the virtual offseason program through June 26 and no in-person minicamps will happen this month.

Interestingly, teams have the option to extend their offseason program for another two weeks this month or call it off at the end of this week. Which way the Bengals decide to go remains to be seen.

While it’s a little disappointing coaches and other limited personnel are the only ones allowed back in team facilities right now, there remains a beacon of hope that changes in July and landmarks like training camp aren’t too delayed.

And as always, the sooner the better for these Bengals after a complete overhaul to the roster, including under center with Burrow and at all levels of the defense.
