Report: NBA’s G League Select Team will be based in Walnut Creek

The Golden State Warriors could be getting a new hoops neighbor in the Bay Area.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, The G League’s Select Team will play their home games in Walnut Creek.

In April, the league announced the new professional pathway program for elite basketball prospects. The G League Select Team will serve as an alternative for playing at the college level.

Headlined by five-star prospect Jalen Green, the G League select team is already featuring a powerhouse cast in its opening campaign. After playing his senior season at Prolific Prep in Napa, the Bay Area native will only have to make the short trip from the North Bay to Walnut Creek.

Along with Green, McDonald’s All-Americans Isaiah Todd and Daishien Nix will join five-star small forward Jonathan Kumiga on the Select Team.

Princepal Singh will also join the G League’s stacked roster out of the NBA Academy India. The 19-year-old power forward will become the first player out of the NBA Academy India to sign a professional contract.

Oakland native and former Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw will serve as the head coach for the league’s professional pathway program. Shaw will coach the Select Team through NBA training and exhibition games against other G League squads.

With ample draft capital heading into the 2021 edition of the NBA Draft, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr won’t have to travel far to study some of the top prospects in the future class.
