Report: NBA now targeting slightly earlier start date of July 30

Although there has been more news about players who are uncertain about participating in the NBA’s restart at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the league and the union agreed last week on the 22-team restart, scheduled for the end of July. And while there have been talks about teams being able to fill out their roster with replacements if players are injured or have concerns over COVID-19, the NBA may be back earlier than they previously thought, at least by a day.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday afternoon the league is now targeting a start date of July 30 at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World.

Players on many teams across the country have returned to their practice facility for socially distanced workouts, but players are still limited on what they can do as far as full-contact drills, such as playing 1-on-1 with their teammates.

Earlier this week, Carmelo Anthony became the biggest name to suggest that he may not go to Orlando due to concerns about not knowing all of the details of the league’s health protocols.
