When the Lakers signed LeBron James last summer, they expected to build a superteam under the leadership of Magic Johnson and Luke Walton.
Fast forward to May, and the Lakers whiffed on their free-agent targets, missed the playoffs, saw Magic resign and parted ways with Walton. Now, they can’t even get Tyronn Lue to be their coach.
According to reports from ESPN and Stadium, Lue passed on the Lakers job after he was offered a three-year, $18-million deal that didn’t give him full autonomy over his coaching staff (the Lakers wanted Jason Kidd on staff). With the Lue negotiations falling through, the Lakers will be left with hiring a Plan-C option at head coach.
It’s really not looking good for Jeanie Buss and company.
One of those Plan-C options could even include former Knicks and Hawks coach Mike Woodson. Cool, cool, cool. Everything is fine.
NBA fans reacted to this news just about how we should have expected … with plenty of roasting.
