Report: Minneapolis settles lawsuit with former Vikings DT Tom Johnson for $475,000

Former Vikings defensive tackle Tom Johnson and his attorneys will receive a $475,000 payout, stemming from a 2016 lawsuit filed against the city of Minneapolis, according to reports from multiple outlets.

Johnson accused two police officers of assaulting him outside of a bar downtown in 2014. The Star Tribune reported that in the 2016 lawsuit, two off-duty officers pepper-sprayed the defensive tackle, then shocked him with a Taser after he refused to stop recording the altercation on his cellphone.

Johnson was arrested on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer, but he was found not guilty, per the Star Tribune.

Johnson, 35, played in the NFL for nine seasons. He played five of those seasons with the Vikings, three with the Saints and one with the Seahawks. In 2017, he started all but one game with Minnesota, tallying 32 tackles and two sacks.

He was known for his run-stopping prowess. He was a decent starter and a good role player in his NFL career.
