Report: Michael Bennett trade could bring Martellus out of retirement to play for Patriots

The Bennett brothers might steal the McCourty brothers’ thunder.

After the news that the New England Patriots are finalizing a trade for Michael Bennett, former Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett is considering coming out of retirement to join his brother, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. They’d link up with another pair of brothers on a team that had both McCourty twins in 2018.

Bennett spent one full season (2016) with the Patriots, with 55 receptions for 701 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season. He also helped the team win Super Bowl LI. He played through multiple injuries, which ultimately required surgery. He then joined the Packers in 2017, but the two parties quickly realized the union wasn’t working. They cut him, which sent him back to New England on a waiver claim. He played for the Patriots for two games before ending the season on injured reserve. He retired at the end of the season.
