Report: Matthew Stafford nixed any trade to New England

A new report from Tom Curran of RSN indicates that the trade rumors and speculation about the Lions sending QB Matthew Stafford to the New England Patriots was never going to happen.

Stafford wanted no part of the “Patriot Way”, not after playing the last three seasons under former Patriots Bob Quinn at GM and head coach Matt Patricia, who is now back in New England. Per Curran,

And now, for a localized aftershock: Stafford told the Lions they could send him anywhere but New England.

This comes from a source whose team was heavily involved in Stafford trade negotiations but failed to land him.

Stafford did not have a no-trade clause in his contract, but the Lions did attempt to appease their long-time quarterback as best as they could. And shipping him to the Los Angeles Rams is clearly preferential for Stafford, who already has a home in the L.A. area.
